Pegasus Social Club for Teens

A monthly social meetup in the community facilitated by our experienced social skills trainers

Offering separate Middle School and High School Social Clubs

Pegasus Social Club begins with a social meal at a restaurant and then the group moves on to a fun activity like bowling, miniature golf, escape rooms, etc.

OVERVIEW

Make friends, enjoy new experiences, practice social skills, and have fun in the community!

Pegasus Social Club (PSC) meets one Sunday per month for a three-hour outing. The events generally begin at a casual restaurant where the participants practice ordering, paying independently, and hanging out, eating, and socializing together. Then, the group walks to a nearby activity, such as bowling, escape rooms, miniature golf, etc.

Although this is not social skills training or therapy, your teen will practice socializing in the real world under the supportive eye of an experienced social skills therapist.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

Pegasus Social Club is for middle school students currently in grades 6, 7, and 8 (no 5th graders), or in high school (up to age 19). Participants in PSC need to have recently participated in a social skills group, presently be participating in a social skills group, or had previously attended Camp Pegasus for at least 4 weeks.

Participants must possess good self-regulation and impulse control as a sign of readiness to participate in this community activity: 1:1 support is not available for meltdowns and intensive emotional support. Bullying, hate speech, and dominating behaviors are not acceptable, as the Club needs to be a safe place for all. We require a consultation with a youth’s therapist or an adult who observes your child in social settings prior to confirming participation in PSC.

PROGRAM FACILITATOR

Donn Lonnquist, MA, ATR-BC, LPC, the beloved clinical director - and supervisor of the teen division - of Camp Pegasus, coordinates and facilitates PSC. Mr. Donn has been working with youth in a variety of therapy and community settings for over two decades! He will be on hand to guide the activities, offer participation tips, and provide coaching through any challenging moments that may arise. We always joke that Mr. Donn’s middle initial is ‘Q’ - for quality! Everyone enjoys his dad jokes, deep knowledge of sci-fi, music, and anime/manga. He’s awesome!

FEES AND ENROLLMENT

We offer three enrollment options. PSC holds activities eight times during the school year (one Sunday per month). You can sign up for one meetup, 4 events, or all 8 meetups covering the whole school year.

We save one Sunday in June as a potential make up date in case we need to cancel any of the events due to facilitator illness, inclement weather, etc. No meetup will be held in June if all sessions are held between October and May.

PSC PROGRAM FEES

  • Single Session Meetup: $190

  • 4 meetups: $720

  • Full Program (8 monthly meetups): $1,440

Program fees cover the PSC facilitator(s), administrative, event planning, and communication costs of running the program.

INSURANCE REIMBURSEMENT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR THIS PROGRAM BECAUSE PSC IS A SOCIAL ACTIVITY (NOT THERAPY).

MEAL AND ACTIVITY COSTS

Parents/participants are responsible for the costs at the activity, including food, drink, admission/activity fees, and any other souvenir or incidental purchases your youth makes. Please provide your child with enough spending money for the event so they can practice independently interacting with and paying cashiers, servers, etc. The PSC facilitator, the Art of Friendship Social Skills Program, and our parent organization, the Child and Family Art Therapy Center, do not give youth money or purchase anything for participants at the activities.

ATTENDANCE & REFUND POLICY

Attendance and Absences from Scheduled Meetups:

  • Your child is invited to attend all the PSC sessions for which they enrolled during the current school year.

  • If your child is ill and cannot attend a meetup, they are welcome to attend a future event if there are any remaining in the current school year schedule. Please contact PSC facilitator Donn Lonnquist as soon as you are aware that your child will not be able to attend a certain event, as it may impact staffing and whether the event is held.

  • Refunds are not provided for illness or if your child elects to not attend an event.

  • Enrollment in PSC is only for the current school year, and terminates each June. Each new school year, participants may enroll again, and no event rain checks or tuition credit carries over from one academic year to the next.

  • If you wish to enroll in the program with fewer than four meetups remaining, you can purchase them one event at a time.

Withdrawal From the Program

  • Full refunds are provided if you communicate in writing that you intend to withdraw your child from the program 14 days (two weeks) prior to their next meetup.

  • If your child already attended one or more events and you enrolled for multiple (4 or 8) meetups, you will be provided a refund on a prorated basis for the events your child did not yet attend, provided you gave at least 14 day’s notice before the next scheduled meetup.

  • Unfortunately, if your intent to withdraw from the Club is communicated in writing with 13 days’ notice or less prior to a scheduled event, that event will not be included in your refund.
